Ladies, I know I’m not speaking to myself when I say this, but getting older is a blessing and a curse. It feels like mid-life can bring about various challenges for us as women, watching what we eat, dealing with everybody else but ourselves and then on top of that, we’re faced with menopause symptoms in the near distance. As we age, our metabolism slows down, and hormonal changes can affect our appetite and cravings. However, incorporating protein-rich snacks into your diet can be a game-changer. Not only do they help curb cravings, but they also aid in weight loss. In this post, I wanted to leave you with five of the top protein snacks specifically helping you stay energized and on track towards your health goals.

  1. Greek Yogurt Parfait: Greek yogurt is a fantastic snack option packed with high-quality protein, calcium, and probiotics. Create a delicious parfait by layering Greek yogurt with fresh berries and a sprinkle of nuts or seeds. Listen, nobody ever got fat eating berries. The combination of protein and fiber will keep you feeling full and satisfied, while the antioxidants from the berries support overall health. This snack is quick to prepare, making it ideal for busy women on the go.

They are portable, easy to prepare in advance, and can be enjoyed as a snack anytime, anywhere. The protein content in eggs helps stabilize blood sugar levels, reducing cravings and keeping hunger at bay. Consider pairing a hard-boiled egg with a side of sliced veggies or a small handful of nuts for an extra nutrient boost.

3. Roasted Chickpeas: Chickpeas, also known as garbanzo beans, are a versatile legume that can be transformed into a crunchy, protein-packed snack. Roast chickpeas in the oven with a sprinkle of spices like paprika, cumin, or garlic powder for a satisfying and guilt-free treat. With their high fiber and protein content, roasted chickpeas help control hunger, regulate blood sugar levels, and promote digestive health. They are a fantastic alternative to processed, calorie-laden snacks.

5. Almond Butter and Apple Slices: Almond butter paired with apple slices makes for a delicious and nutritious snack that combines protein, healthy fats, and fiber. Almonds are a great source of plant-based protein, while the natural sweetness and fiber in apples help curb sugar cravings. 6. Beef Jerky: Beef jerky is a savory and convenient snack that is rich in protein and low in fat. It provides a good source of essential amino acids, which are crucial for muscle recovery and growth. Look for jerky options made from lean cuts of beef and without excessive sodium or added sugars. Beef jerky is an excellent on-the-go snack that can help satisfy cravings and keep you feeling satisfied between meals. Just make sure to choose high-quality brands with minimal additives.

For us middle aged women struggling with energy, struggling with our weight, struggling not to hurt these kids… adding more protein into your meals will help with all the above. Be conscious about adding more protein snacks into your daily routine, watch and see if that makes a significant difference. Rule of thumb is to ensure that each meal we’re getting about 30g of protein, so if you’re struggling to reach that, then I’d encourage you supplement with protein snacks.
